On International Women’s Day, we held a potluck for our Jennifer friends and family to honor some of the powerful women in our lives (and eat a ton of delicious foods). Overall, the gathering consisted of 23 women (and 2 men, hi Ben and Bobby!) who shared empowering stories—including some of the challenges they’ve faced and the incredible strength they’ve possessed to overcome them.
The energy in the room was palpable; people were meeting for the first time, exchanging laughs, and sharing suggestions on the food (you had to try Souris’s homemade bread). We were brought together by this camaraderie—a shared understanding we have as women. And even within that, we discussed intersectional feminism and the different, unique experiences we all have based on our interlaying identities. Everyone showed genuine respect and interest in one another and listened to the stories of entrepreneurs, models, bloggers, musicians, moms, activists.
By the end of the evening, we were stuffed. Boxes of pizza, a platter of fruit tarts, a thing of cornbread, some poke, and way more food scattered the tables. It was evident everyone brought a bit too much food, but no worries! Our guests happily boxed some food to go—a perfect meal for the following day.
We just want to say a huge thank you to all of the women who came out, who opened up, who shared words of wisdom and showed us vulnerability, who encouraged us, who brought amazing, diverse foods, and who have moved us beyond these words. We love you and we are always rooting for you.
